breaking news: jeremy hinzman deportation order has been stayed!
We've won another round!! A federal court judge has stayed the deportation of war resister Jeremy Hinzman and his family. Jeremy's lawyer can now apply for leave to appeal. YES!! More news later tonight or tomorrow morning, after I attend an emergency meeting. For now, enjoy the victory. [Apologies for causing any confusion - or heart attacks - earlier. I hit "publish" instead of "draft".]
watch this space for news about jeremy hinzman
Jeremy Hinzman's lawyer, Alyssa Manning, is in federal court today, trying to have Jeremy's deportation order stayed. This happened with Corey Glass, the day before his scheduled removal, and Corey has since won leave to appeal. In the intervening time, there has also been a very positive decision in Josh Key's case, regarding a soldier being forced to participate in human rights violations or war crimes, and an individual's right to refuse such activity. Because of this, we are hopeful - we are trying to be hopeful - that today's decision will be positive. But we know it may not be. We don't expect to hear anything before day's end. There's an emergency meeting tonight, so I may have already left when the news comes down, in which case Allan will update the blog.
Sounds like something Sam The Man Jackson would say... ;)
ReplyDeleteWearing my stupid hat.
ReplyDeleteitmfa? Is the mf what I think it is?
Probably. Click and find out!
ReplyDeleteGood old Dan Savage. His previous meme was to create a definition for the word "Santorum" that would appropriately honour the senator of that name.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't heard of that one, just Google "Santorum" -- it's the first result. However, it's not for the squeamish -- If you think you might be offended by it, then you probably will be.
Oh yes, santorum. Disgusting, but well-deserved.
ReplyDeleteI have my issues with some of Dan Savage's politics, though. He's a leader in the "blame Nader" camp, and feels anyone who doesn't support the Dems, no matter what, is a traitor.
It's hard for me to understand that, given what little the Democrats have done for us.
But I love his column, of course.
Click on it? What a novel concept. I must have been really befuzzled yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI clicked. Funny that I got the mf right but couldn't figure out the rest.
Santorum - can't say I wasn't warned.
ReplyDeleteThis is great -- must order a t-shirt.
ReplyDeleteCrabbi, I knew you'd enjoy it. :)
ReplyDeleteI was telling my daughter J about this yesterday. She thinks the acronym is kind of lame. "No one will know what that means, and isn't the point to get people to think? " she said. Nope, not in this case. In this case, I get to be part of a really club and maybe I'll run into other people with ITMFA gear and we can wink and smile at each other.
ReplyDeleteBut I will never wear a santorum t-shirt. Just thinking about santorum actually makes me physically ill -- both the frothy mixture and the senator. OTOH, as you say, he deserves it.

ReplyDeleteAmazingly, the senator nauseates me more than the substance. Although I must say your use of the word "frothy" gives it s special stomach-turning kick.
Oh, I can't take credit for "frothy." I think that is Mr. Savage's word.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about Santorum; he's far more disgusting than any substance. Anyway, who am I to judge other people's substances? But Santorum? Him I'll judge.
