breaking news: jeremy hinzman deportation order has been stayed!
We've won another round!! A federal court judge has stayed the deportation of war resister Jeremy Hinzman and his family. Jeremy's lawyer can now apply for leave to appeal. YES!! More news later tonight or tomorrow morning, after I attend an emergency meeting. For now, enjoy the victory. [Apologies for causing any confusion - or heart attacks - earlier. I hit "publish" instead of "draft".]
watch this space for news about jeremy hinzman
Jeremy Hinzman's lawyer, Alyssa Manning, is in federal court today, trying to have Jeremy's deportation order stayed. This happened with Corey Glass, the day before his scheduled removal, and Corey has since won leave to appeal. In the intervening time, there has also been a very positive decision in Josh Key's case, regarding a soldier being forced to participate in human rights violations or war crimes, and an individual's right to refuse such activity. Because of this, we are hopeful - we are trying to be hopeful - that today's decision will be positive. But we know it may not be. We don't expect to hear anything before day's end. There's an emergency meeting tonight, so I may have already left when the news comes down, in which case Allan will update the blog.
Hee Hee That's pretty cool :)
ReplyDeleteStill, as a peace loving Canadian, I don't know if I could be comfortable living in a country that ruled the world. I don't think Canada could handle that. LOL We just want everyone to get along and play nice. No ruling anybody. At least, that's what I learned growing up. Then again, I may be completely stuck in the 50's and just don't know it. ;)
Pretty cool stuff.
ReplyDeleteNow if Korea ruled the world.. You don't wanna know what is going on in my head. The dog joke is only the tip of an ice berg :)
David, you are a model of discretion.
ReplyDeleteActually, this was a little disappointing. There were a lot of entries that were just shaping things into maple leaves. Although the maple leaf is a popular enough motif, it's not as though we're obsessed with them.
ReplyDeleteThe Tim Horton's references, however, were great. I ought to lead tours to the original Tim's in Hamilton.
This made me scream with laughter. So well done with plenty of references to Tim's of course. And we certainly could handle making this world a better place! I really enjoyed reading your entries.
